Writing for a webzine you never really know what you may expect when a new envelope hits the mailbox. A few days ago I found this album on my doormat.
‘Frail Visions’ is Remembrance full length debut album. In March 2005 the two-piece band released an EP ‘Among Lost Illusions’, containing for 4 songs and just a few months later they signed a deal with Totalrust Music. Sometimes the music business moves fast…
I can be brief about this album, ‘Frail Visions’ is filled with slow, dark, gloomy and most of all melodic mournful Funeral Doom. Images of cold and rainy afternoons or lonely autumn nights, old graveyards covered with snow and big empty Victorian houses pass before my minds eye. I enjoy music that takes me to a different state of mind and lets me dream off to another place and time. Remembrance succeeded in making an album that does just that.
The two-piece Carline and Matthieu, who are also active in the more gothic 'Lethian Dreams', won't win any prizes for originality with Remembrance and borrowed heavily from bands like Mourning Beloveth and Evoken.
But they do manage to create an atmosphere in which melancholy and despair are lifted to a higher level. Press the play button and let them take you on a hours journey through mournful melodies and melancholic soundscapes. |
